Embodying the power and prestige of the mythical Chinese dragon, this Australia Post stamp and coin cover offers a great way to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Key features:

  • Coloured dragon design
  • Official Australia Post stamps
  • Red and gold Chinese dragon envelope design

Chinese New Year is one of the most important celebrations for Chinese people across the globe. It is a time for families to reunite, as well as honour deities and ancestors. According to Chinese folktale, the Chinese dragon is used to scare away a ferocious monster named “Nian” and believed to bring good luck in the new year.

The reverse of the coin features a coloured representation of a Chinese dragon with fireworks in the background.  Also included in the design are the Chinese characters ‘新年快乐’, a common phrase said to wish one a Happy New Year, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The official $1.50 and $3.00 Australia Post stamps feature a snake with red and gold scales. A commemorative postmark in the form of a snake's body in a Chinese knot includes the words ‘First day of issue 7 January 2025 Christmas Island WA 6798’. The illustrated envelope features a gold dragon on a red background, and the words ‘HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2025’ on an oriental pattern. Also included on the envelope is Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity.
